U.S. Senate Youth Program

The state of Iowa is participating in the U.S. Senate Youth Program (USSYP). The program is designed to give young Americans a working knowledge of American political life.
Each year two Iowa students have the opportunity to spend a week in Washington, D.C., all expenses paid. In addition, the two Iowa high school representatives each receive a $5,000 scholarship.

Any high school junior or senior who serves in an elected or appointed positions for the 2015-2016 school year are invited to apply, examples include: Student government, student council, and civic or educational organizations.
Check the the timeline within the Application Materials section below for specific due dates. Applicants must take a qualifying examination (specific dates determined by each AEA) on the U.S. Constitution and government. The award recipients are announced in December.
