NCAA


For those students who wish to pursue college athletics, the NCAA has very specific eligibility requirements regarding course selection throughout high school and minimum GPA. 


Action steps for college-bound athletes
    1. Inform your high school coach that you are interested in playing that sport in college. 
    2. Inform your counselor that you are interested in competing in athletics at the college 
        level. Work closely with your counselor to ensure you're academic schedule is focused         around NCAA approved courses. 
    3. Register w/ the NCAA here at the beginning of your sophomore year 
    4. Request your transcript to be sent to the NCAA eligibility center at the end of your   
        junior year. 
    5. Take the ACT and use the code '9999' to have your official scores sent directly to the  
        NCAA center.
    6. Check with me to make sure you are on track to graduate on time with your class and 
         have the required amount of core courses.
    7. Request final amateurism certification during your senior year.

Students fall into one of three categories:

  • Full Qualifier
    • May receive athletic aid (scholarship), practice and compete 
      • Minimum required core-course GPA of 2.30.
      • Complete 16 core courses, 10 of which must be completed before the beginning of the 7th semester. Seven of 10 must be english, math or natural/physical science.
      • Meet the competition sliding scare requirement of GPA and ACT/SAT score

  • Academic Redshirt
    • May receive athletic aid (scholarship), practice, but may not complete in the first year of enrollment
      • Minimum required core-course GPA of 2.00
      • Complete 16 core courses, 10 of which must be completed before the beginning of the 7th semester. Seven of 10 must be english, math or natural/physical science.
      • Meet the competition sliding scare requirement of GPA and ACT/SAT score
  • Nonqualifier
