Master Builders of Iowa is sponsoring a week-long commitment (Oct.3-7) to raise awareness of the vast opportunities available in the construction industry.
Why a career in construction?
- It's not just hammers and nails! The field of construction includes skilled/craft laborers, drafting and architecture, technical and engineering, and management and safety.
- Nationally, 200,000 new positions in construction related industries will be available each year over the next 10 years!
- Average hourly earnings are over $25, plus benefits!
- Diverse education possibilities, careers ranging from from those who want to enter the workforce immediately after high school through those seeking a a 4-year college education and beyond.
To bring awareness to the great opportunities within Iowa's construction industry, an informational website, www.BuildIowa.org, has been created to showcase career options and highlight the benefits of working in construction.
Participate in Construction Week at SLHS through the various activities:
- Newsbreak interviews with local professionals, highlighting the various different occupational options within specific construction areas.
- Field trip to Home Resource Center in Spirit Lake on Friday, Oct. 7 at 10:30am. This provides an opportunity to learn more about a local business and network with local professionals.
- Feature Friday during Common Time on Friday will focus on Architecture and Construction career cluster. Architect at 3D Builders, Shelly Gustin will be our guest speaker.
