Iowa Lakes Community College's Nursing Program has outlined some recommended courses for high school students wanting a smoother transition from high school into their nursing program specifically, but perhaps similar recommendations as other regional nursing programs.
- ACT
- Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO168) *
- Anatomy & Physiology II (BIO173) *
- College Chemistry I (CHM151)
- Introduction to Biology (BIO105)
- Introduction to Psychology (PSY111)
- Nutrition (BIO151) #
- Developmental Psychology (PSY121)
- Certified Nurse Aid (HSC172) #
* Denotes courses taught in-house at SLHS
# Denotes courses taught through Health Sciences Career Academy
The great news? There are several avenues to attain many/all of these items throughout high school at little/no financial cost to you!
If you are considering a career in nursing, consider keeping these courses in mind and I invite you to talk with me about your interest and potential pre-requisites to any of the above items.
Thanks,
Mrs.Nelson
