Connecting Students to Future Success: BUSINESS HORIZONS


  • Hear from inspirational Iowa business leaders on topics such as leadership, entrepreneurship, marketing, networking and international business. 
  • Learn what it takes to be successful in today's workplace.
  • Make financial decisions about business operations.
  • Strengthen leadership skills.

What: A week-long, hands-on, action-oriented, live-in summer program for high school students who want to learn about what the future holds for them in the business world.

When: Sunday, July 20th, beginning at 1pm through Thursday, July 24th at 6pm

Who: Any current Iowa high school students (grades 9-12 during 13-14 school year)

Where: Central College, Pella, Iowa

Selection Process: Applications can be downloaded at www.businesshorizonsiowa.com

Cost to Attend: Registration fee includes meals, housing and all program materials. ($300 by April 15, $385 after May 15) College credit option available.

Central College is pleased to announce that any student who participates in Business Horizons and applies, is admitted and choose to attend Central, will be guaranteed a minimum of $12,000 in Central College scholarship assistance, renewable for all four years.

US Naval Academy Summer 2014 STEM Program

What is STEM?
The US Naval Academy focuses on four areas during the Summer STEM Program: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This program is designed to encourage rising 8th-11th graders to pursue a course of study in engineering and technology throughout high school and college.

Dates/Grade Level 
June 2-7 (Rising 8th & 9th Graders)
June 9-14 (Rising 10th Graders)
June 16-20 (Rising 11th Graders)

Student Selection

  • Applications will be available on 1/6/14 at www.usna.edu/admissions/stem
  • Students must be entering 8th-11th grade in the following school year
  • Selection is based on geography and student accomplishments inside and outside the classroom
Tuition
The tuition is $350.00, transportation costs not included

United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar

The United States Naval Academy's Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience that will take you beyond anything you have ever done before. Beyond the ordinary!

The Summer Seminar (Session dates: May 31-June 5, June 7-12 or June 14-19) offers the opportunity for rising high school seniors (those who just completed their junior year) to visit the Naval Academy where they will experience all aspects of the Naval Academy including the academic program and midshipman life. Students will receive an overview of Navy and Marine Corps service options.

Basic Eligibility
*United States Citizen
*Unmarried, not pregnant
*Academic Performance
*Demonstrated Achievement in athletics and extra-curricular activities
*Physically fit, good health
*Positive attitude, good moral character

Student Selection
Applications will be available on January 16th at www.usna.edu/admissions/nass. Selection is based in large part on ensuring geographic representation along with overall accomplishments in and out of the classroom.

Tuition 
The tuition to attend a session is $400.00, not including transportation costs.

Free trip to Washington, D.C.

Iowa Lakes will send two students on the tour, an exciting, week-long (June 13-19), all-expense paid trip to our nation's Capitol. Each student will also receive a $500 scholarship to a college of their choice!
